Fall Ball Week 3 Recap

posted by Brad Kaczka   [ updated ]

Both Fall Ball teams played this past week as they took advantage of this late September heat wave!  The 13u Fall team swept their double Saturday against the Southern Tier Sluggers 11-0 and 10-2.  Solid defense and multiple pick-offs at first and second helped the pitchers to hold the opposing team to just two runs in 14 innings of play.  With their first official fall games under their belt, they look to continue their clean play and execution this Saturday in a doubleheader against Lancaster at 1:00 PM at McQuaid Jesuit High School.
Our Fall Showcase team had a very busy week as they were able to get three very competitive games in.  After splitting the first two games against Monroe Community College earlier in the fall, they looked to win the three-game series last Wednesday.  Unfortunately, after 16 hits and solid defense, MCC ended up winning 10-4.   They then traveled to Syracuse on Saturday to play Onondaga Community College in a doubleheader.  After dropping the first game, the team came together, made some adjustments, and started game two with a lot of energy and focus.  Behind a 6 run fourth inning and solid pitching by Greece Athena 2021 grad Casey Saucke, the 'Canes went on to win 10-5.  Ryan Hill and his consistent strike-throwing helped to secure the win.  Big days by Drew Bailey, Tyler Griggs, and Hudson Bockmier helped to lead the offense.  With a full week of practice, our Showcase team looks to continue to improve as we prepare for a doubleheader Sunday against the Northeast Twins.

Fall Ball Week 2 Recap

Our second full week of Fall Ball is in the books as both our 13u and Showcase team look forward to another busy week.  Our 13u team will continue to practice until this weekend where they will have their first games of the fall.  Starting at 1:00 PM on Saturday, they will play a doubleheader against the Southern Tier Sluggers at McQuaid High School.  Our showcase team played MCC last Thursday and dropped the rematch 9-5.  It was a very competitive, back and forth game which due to some errors in the field, ultimately went the Tribunes way.  Learning from those mistakes and improving is what the fall is all about.  We will spend practice time going over those mistakes and correcting them to hopefully minimize them in the future!  The Showcase team will be back in action Wednesday against MCC at around 4:00 PM.

Fall Ball Week 1 Recap

After a rainy start to our 2017 Fall Ball Season, both teams were able to get outside and play this past weekend.  Our 13u Team had an inter-squad game on Saturday, which was very competitive as all the kids are making the adjustments on the bigger fields.  Our Showcase Team had a very exciting weekend as they rallied in the top of the 9th to beat the MCC Tribunes on Sunday!  Erik Johnson, Lukas Haefner, and Ryan Hill all pitched extremely well and kept us in the game as our hitters competed in their at bats.  Down two runs in the top of the 9th, multiple base hits and aggressive base running was capped off by Tyler Griggs' two run double.  This gave the 'Canes a 6-4 lead going into the bottom of the 9th.  Hill's ability to consistently throw strikes and a big double play helped to seal the deal.
While the fall is more about developing and improving then wins and losses, we want to recognize how important it is to stay competitive with your at-bats/pitches throughout the game.  Our clean defense and aggressive base running allowed us to stay in the game and eventually string some hits and runs together!
Our Showcase Team is back in action against MCC this Thursday the 14th around 4:00 PM while our 13u will be practicing hard and scrimmaging before their first game on September 23rd

It was great weekend of baseball for the Diamond Pro family. Both our 10u and 17u teams battled in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls region.

10u Gold finished the weekend 4-1 and lost in the championship game to a tough Cougars squad. Hats off to Coach Maynard and the boys for a tremendous weekend!

17u Kaczka also had a great showing losing in the championship game of their bracket by a score of 4-2. Despite a thin roster due to players still competing in high school players they put a gritty effort together and made DP proud.

DP Fall Teams Wrap Up Their Seasons

posted Oct 21, 2016, 6:28 PM by Brad Kaczka   [ updated Oct 21, 2016, 6:33 PM ]

This past weekend saw the end of three very successful seasons for all three of Diamond Pro’s fall teams.  During our fall season, we stress development and improvement and it was important for us that the players understood that.  Part of their development, though, is continuing to go out there and compete every single day.  We want them to compete not only against the other team but against each other as well.  Competition within a team only drives overall improvement and benefits everyone.  We are very proud of the way that all three teams, 12u, 15u, and 17u, competed throughout the fall.

All of our fall teams brought returning DP players together with new players which turned out to be a great experience for all.  Our 12u team was coached by Tom Rogers and had a very successful fall as they outscored opponents 118-44.  Our 15u team competed against some of the best local teams and Buffalo area teams.  Coached by Zack Melino, their most notable wins came this past Sunday as they swept team New Era in Buffalo.  The 17u Showcase team not only played against high school teams but had the chance to compete against the best junior colleges in the area.  Coach Tony Fuller helmed a team that played Monroe Community College, Niagara County Community College, and Genesee Community College.  The 17u team also traveled down to Fort Myers, Florida for the Perfect Game World Wood Bat Tournament with over 200 teams.  They represented Diamond Pro proudly as they played against some of the best teams in the country.

As fall ball ends, we are now shifting gears to prepare ourselves for summer 2017.  We hope all our fall ball players will continue to work hard as the cold winter months’ approach us.  Best of luck to all players during their school seasons and we look forward to working with them soon.
